Notes:  All this week I'm conducting training at my dealerships with a co-worker.  Today we decided to power through and skip lunch.  Irritates me when my routine gets thrown off, but I get no where near as crazy as I used to if a meal was postponed.  Now I know the reason for my freak outs was because my high carb diet was throwing my system into chaos.  It actually used to be a joke among my girlfriends, about my needing to be fed regularly. I can tell keeping the processed carbs out keeps me more level!

Over the last week I've cheated more than once.  Did fairly decent over the week but splurged on the weekends.  Too much beer over this weekend and am up SIX POUNDS over my end of March weight.  Time to get back on track.

What did I learn from all this cheating?  I believe I am way more sensitive to grains and starches than diary and sugar.  Drank a lot of beer over this past weekend, and on Saturday night and Sunday morning I felt like total crap.  Also had eaten a fried chicken sandwich and french fries on Saturday.  All this with the beer led to lots of digestive trouble.

So, back to logging my meals because it keeps me honest!

8:30 - 1 HB egg, 2 all natural pork sausage links, 2 cups of decaf coffee with heavy cream and stevia
11:00 - 2 ground beef patties with mustard and red onions
4:00 - 1/4 cup macadamia nuts
5:30 - workout = 1RM deadlift of 220 (5# PR), 8 100 meter sprints
7:30 - five turkey meatballs, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower
8:30 - 1 cup of herbal tea

Lessons Learned

It was a long month, but one well spent.  I've learned a lot and lost at least nine pounds, and though I haven't taken any final measurements, my clothes are definitely fitting better.

When we started the 60 Day Paleo Challenge at GVCF, I never intended it to be for just 60 days.  I've heard it takes three weeks to make a habit, and I'm hoping some good habits have been formed over the course of the last two and a half months.  Still have 15-20 pounds I'd like to lose sooner rather than later, so with a few tweaks the mission continues.

Some take-aways:
  • I always drank coffee for the taste, not the pick-me-up, and I never thought I was addicted to caffiene.  After how I felt during the first week of March, I learned I definitely was going through withdrawals.  Though not exactly crack cocaine, it's eye opening to think of your body being dependant on a substance
  • Lost the most weight in the first 12 days, before adding sweet potatos and alcohol back in the diet.  Going forward in April, I'm taking the sweet potatos out and sticking with tequila and red wine.  Will see what that does for the speed of weight loss
  • I miss breakfast meat, so will be adding back in nitrate free sausage and bacon for April
  • I always felt I had a mild lactose intolerance, after a little heavy cream in this morning's cup of decaf, I'm not sure I'll call in mild anymore.  Going to go easy on the cream and stay off all other dairy and see how I feel (the coconut milk creamer just isn't the same)
  • I really did just feel better throughout the month.  At times I'd catch myself just taking notice of how good I felt.  This might not be entirely because of the diet, I believe this also to be a result of recent changes in my personal life
  • Beer just doesn't taste as good as it used to.  Not sure how I feel about this one yet

Day 30

7:45 - wake
9:00 - breakfast = 2 paleo egg muffins
1:00 - lunch = Jimmy John's Turkey Tom Unwich with Mustard instead of Mayo
4:00 - snack = cashews
7:00 - dinner = 6 paleo chicken nuggets, broccoli, 2 vodka sodas (it was that kind of day)

Notes:  I really do feel better eating this way and limiting the alcohol.  But tomorrow is the end of one long month!  All I really want is a cup of coffee.  It can even be decaf.  But I do want heavy cream and not the coconut milk stuff!
